Are you ready to experience a revolutionary treatment to help transform your skin? We're thrilled to announce the arrival of Dermalux LED phototherapy, a world-leading innovation in skincare, exclusively available at Butterfly You Beauty.
What is Dermalux LED Phototherapy?
Dermalux is a multi-award-winning, world-leading British brand specialising in professional LED Phototherapy.
LED Phototherapy uses specific therapeutic light wavelengths to energise your skin cells and accelerate your natural regeneration and repair processes.
Dermalux has developed next-generation technology that surpasses anything else on the market. It is non-invasive, safe, effective, and perfect if you’re seeking a natural way to achieve your skincare goals - whether you want to fight the signs of ageing, reduce acne or psoriasis, or relieve pain and redness.
How does LED Phototherapy work?
Dermalux utilises clinically proven light wavelengths to trigger the skin’s natural repair processes without pain or downtime.
LED Phototherapy uses light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to stimulate cellular activity and promote skin rejuvenation. Different wavelengths of light, typically red, blue, and near-infrared, are utilised to target specific skin concerns.
Red light stimulates collagen production, reduces inflammation, and promotes overall skin health.
Blue light effectively treats acne by targeting the bacteria responsible for breakouts.
Near-infrared light penetrates deeper into the skin, promoting healing and enhancing cellular regeneration.
The benefits of LED
LED Phototherapy is known for its safety, minimal side effects, and versatility in addressing various skin conditions. It is commonly used in dermatology and aesthetic settings for its ability to improve the appearance of the skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and treat conditions such as acne and hyperpigmentation.
The light triggers a whole cascade of cell-activating processes with benefits continuing even after the treatment has finished. Here are the top seven benefits you will expect to see.
Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
Red LED light stimulates the production of collagen, a crucial protein that contributes to skin elasticity and firmness. This can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Soothes irritated skin
Both red and near-infrared LED lights have anti-inflammatory properties, making them effective in calming and soothing irritated skin. This is particularly beneficial if you have inflammatory skin conditions such as rosacea or redness. The red and blue light is also effective in treating psoriasis.
Promotes healing and cell regeneration
Near-infrared LED light penetrates deeper into the skin, promoting faster healing and cellular regeneration. It can be helpful in reducing the recovery time after certain skin treatments or procedures.
Non-invasive way to target acne
Blue LED light has antibacterial properties that can kill acne-associated bacteria. It is a non-invasive way to manage and improve acne-prone skin.
Enhances skin tone and texture
LED Phototherapy can contribute to a more even skin tone by reducing hyperpigmentation and promoting a smoother texture.
Boosts circulation for healthier skin
The light energy from LEDs enhances blood circulation, contributing to healthier skin by ensuring a better supply of oxygen and nutrients to skin cells.
Minimises pore size for smoother skin
The overall improvement in skin health and collagen production can contribute to reduced pore size, giving the skin a smoother appearance.
It’s important to note that individual results may vary, and the effectiveness of LED Phototherapy can depend on factors such as the specific wavelengths used, treatment duration, and consistency.
From head to toe
While LED Phototherapy treatments are commonly carried out on the face, we can in fact treat most parts of the body. So if you're suffering from acne, psoriasis, pigmentation, redness, rosacea or any other skin concern on any part of your body, then LED can help. It can help reduce muscle and jjoint pain.
Combine with other treatments
The other amazing thing about the LED equipment is that we can combine this light therapy with a range of other treatments for even greater relaxation and enhanced results. For example, we can add LED to our range of Eve Taylor facials combining the natural ingredients of Eve Taylor’s products with the LED lights to enrich your skin.
Two revolutionary treatments

Summer Skincare Essentials
Summer sun, don't let it dull your skin! Discover the summer skincare essentials that will keep your skin hydrated, protected, and glowing all season long.
Summer whispers adventure, sunshine-kissed days, and the chance to show off your radiant skin!
But with the change in season comes a shift in sun exposure and humidity, impacting how we care for our complexion. Don't worry, achieving a healthy, glowing summer look is absolutely achievable! Here's your comprehensive guide, focusing on the science behind sun protection, keeping your skin hydrated, and addressing summer-specific concerns.
Understanding the sun’s UV rays
Imagine the sun's UV rays as tiny daggers aimed directly at your skin's collagen, the protein responsible for youthful plumpness. These rays are the leading cause of premature ageing, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation (dark spots). Here's why sun protection is crucial:
DNA Damage: UV rays can damage your skin's DNA, potentially leading to mutations that contribute to skin cancer.
Collagen Breakdown: Sun exposure weakens collagen, leading to wrinkles and sagging. You might notice a consistent loss of elasticity, especially as you age.
Uneven Pigmentation: UV rays stimulate melanin production, the pigment that gives your skin its colour. Uneven sun exposure can lead to dark spots and an uneven skin tone.
Protection for fun in the sun
So, how do we combat these sun daggers? One of the best ways is with sunscreen. Here's my advice on choosing the right one.
Broad-Spectrum SPF 30 or higher: Look for sunscreen that offers a "broad-spectrum" of protection against both UVA and UVB rays. An SPF of 30 blocks 97% of UVB rays, the primary cause of sunburn, while SPF 50 blocks 98%. Don't be afraid to go higher, especially if you have fair skin or are prone to hyperpigmentation.
Generous application and frequent reapplication: Most people only apply about 25% of the recommended amount of sun cream! While sprays and roll-ons are convenient, you should aim for a penny-sized dollop for your face and neck. Did you know that it’s recommended that you reapply every two hours, or more often if sweating or swimming.
Don't forget the ‘easily missed’ spots: Apply sunscreen to your lips (use a lip balm with SPF), ears, neck, the tops of your feet, and even your scalp if you have thinning hair.
Protection beyond SPF
While SPF is essential, you should also consider additional sun protection methods to protect your skin from prolonged exposure to the sun. Some simple but effective things you can do include:
Wear a hat: Wide-brimmed hats shade your face, ears, and neck, reducing sun exposure. Look for hats with a UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) rating for even more protection.
Wear sunglasses: Often used as a stylish accessory, sunglasses that block UVA and UVB rays are good protection for your eyes. Wraparound styles offer additional protection for the delicate skin around the eyes.
Keeping hydrated for a strong summer glow
Now that you've protected your skin from sun damage, let's focus on keeping it hydrated. Think of your skin cells like tiny balloons. In the summer heat, these balloons can lose their water content, leaving your skin feeling dry, dull, and flaky. Here's how to keep your skin plump and glowing:
Lightweight moisturiser is your friend: Opt for a gel-based or oil-free moisturiser that provides hydration without feeling heavy. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, which holds up to 1,000 times its weight in water!
Pro Tip: Keeping a moisturiser in the fridge is great for an extra refreshing pick-me-up on a hot day.
H2O is your best friend: We all know the importance of drinking plenty of water, but it’s even more important during the summer. You should aim for around eight glasses of water a day to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out. Fruits and vegetables with high water content, like watermelon and cucumber, can also contribute to your hydration levels.
Facial mists for a refreshing boost: Keep a facial mist handy to refresh and rehydrate your skin throughout the day.
Pro Tip: We offer a toner for every skin type in our Eve Taylor London skincare range, an important addition to your skincare routine and it can be spritzed throughout the day for extra hydration.
Tailoring summer skincare to your needs
Now that we've covered the essential sun protection and hydration strategies, let's personalise your summer skincare routine! Here's a quick breakdown of how to adjust your routine based on your skin type:
Oily Skin: Look for lightweight, oil-free products labelled "non-comedogenic" (won't clog pores). Gel moisturisers and mattifying sunscreens are great choices. Consider incorporating clay masks once a week to absorb excess oil.
Dry Skin: Opt for richer, cream-based moisturisers with hyaluronic acid or ceramides for deep hydration. Look for gentle cleansers and avoid harsh scrubs. Facial oils can also be beneficial for dry skin, but apply sparingly.
Sensitive Skin: Choose fragrance-free, hypoallergenic products formulated for sensitive skin. Mineral sunscreens are often gentler on sensitive skin. It’s important to patch test any new products on a small area of skin before applying them to your entire face.
Now that we’ve looked at skin type, it can also be important to consider a targeted approach to skincare with age. As we get older, our skin's needs change. So as a general recommendation, if you are in your:
30s: Using a gentle retinal product at night and a vitamin C serum in the morning can brighten and protect your skin, helping slow the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
40s & 50s: Deeper wrinkles may start to appear and your skin will begin to lose some of its youthful elasticity. Consider incorporating a thicker moisturiser and explore anti-ageing creams with peptides, collagen or retinal.
60s & 70s: Using hyaluronic acid serums, retinal serums and brightening creams can help maintain hydration which addresses concerns like dryness and age spots.
Nourish your skin from within
Some of the other skincare tips we often hear and read about are focused on diet. Eating a healthy mix of fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats provides essential nutrients for your skin.
Fruits and vegetables are packed with antioxidants that fight free radical damage and promote healthy skin cell turnover. These can include:
Berries, such as blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, cranberries, and blackberries, are packed with anthocyanins, a type of antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties.
Citrus fruits, such as grapefruits, oranges, lemons, limes, and tangerines are rich in vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that helps boost collagen production.
Tropical fruits like mango, papaya, and pineapple are excellent sources of vitamins A and C, which act as antioxidants.
Dark leafy greens like kale and spinach are loaded with vitamins A, C, and E, all antioxidant powerhouses.
Cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage are rich in sulforaphane, an antioxidant that may help protect against skin cancer.
Sweet potatoes contain beta-carotene, which converts to vitamin A in the body and has antioxidant properties.
Tomatoes contain lycopene, an antioxidant that may help protect against sun damage.
Red bell peppers are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants called capsanthin and lutein.
Omega-3 fatty acids, found in oily fish (salmon, tuna) and nuts (walnuts, almonds), can help keep your skin plump and hydrated. Avocados, are also a good source of healthy fats and vitamin E, an antioxidant that may improve skin hydration and elasticity.
Beauty sleep for radiant skin
Getting plenty of sleep, between 7 and 8 hours per night, is important for your overall physical and mental health. It can also improve the health of your skin because when you are asleep, your body gets to work repairing and regenerating its cells.
I read an article recently that talks about a sleep method called Kaizen. Kaizen means change in Japanese and the article explains how making adjustments to your bedtime routine can help you get a better and more consistent night’s sleep.

Beyond Beautiful Nails with a Regular Manicure and Pedicure
Taking some time for a regular manicure and pedicure is an investment in your overall health and wellbeing.
We know how easy it is to get caught up in the daily grind, neglecting a little TLC for ourselves. But taking some time for a regular manicure and pedicure is more than just fabulous-looking nails - although, that's a great perk! Manicures and pedicures are an investment in your overall health and wellbeing. Here's why.
Stronger, healthier nails and soft skin
Our hands and feet take a beating every day. Chores around the house, running errands, whatever it is, they’re working hard. One of the best benefits of a regular manicure and pedicure is healthy, strong nails and soft skin. During your appointment, we'll gently shape your nails, remove dead skin around the cuticles (bye-bye hangnails!), and encourage new skin cell growth. These new cells act as a guard against nails splitting and becoming brittle, while also preventing dry, cracked skin on your feet. The result? Beautiful, strong nails and soft, smooth skin that feel amazing.
Understanding your nails and promoting growth
Our nails are fascinating. Did you know that they grow at a steady pace of about 3-4 millimetres per month, or roughly 0.1 millimetres a day? Your nails consist of several parts:
Matrix: This hidden "factory" beneath the skin produces 196 layers of cells that combine to make each of your fingernails and toenails. It's located at the nail root, the deepest part of the nail unit.
Nail Plate: The hard, visible part you paint and shape.
Nail Bed: The skin beneath the nail plate that nourishes and supports it.
Cuticle: The thin layer of skin protecting the base of the nail plate.
Nail Lunula: The visible crescent-shaped, lighter area near the base of the nail and it reflects the underlying matrix.
Regular manicures help keep these structures healthy, promoting optimal nail growth.
Did you know that stress can actually affect the growth of your nails? When we're stressed, our bodies prioritise essential functions, and nail growth can slow down or even stop temporarily. This is because your hair and nails are both made from the same protein, keratin. However, nails have a tighter arrangement of keratin molecules, making them stronger than hair.
Boosts circulation, reduces stress, and improves wellbeing
Part of a manicure or pedicure includes a soothing hand or foot massage. This is your chance to hit pause, relax, and enjoy some dedicated "me-time". This regular self-care ritual is ideal for a quick recharge of your batteries and helps to combat stress so your nails continue to grow.
Relaxing isn’t the only benefit here, the massage is also an effective way to boost circulation – something we all need, especially during winter. Better circulation promotes nail growth and can even improve mobility and reduce aches and pains.
Taking care of your nails, both in terms of health and appearance, can make you feel great long after you leave the salon. Imagine compliments on your beautiful, healthy nails and stunning new colour! Choosing a fun nail design lets you express yourself, and can boost your confidence, too.
Identify common nail concerns
Trained nail technicians are like detectives for your nails. During your appointment, we can identify potential problems early on, like fungus or ingrown nails. Catching these issues early means getting the right treatment to prevent them from becoming bigger problems.
The power of a listening ear
Here at the salon, we love a good chat. We believe in the power of conversation and how it can benefit your mental health and wellbeing. Sharing your day, your worries, or even just catching up on life's little moments, can be a great stress reliever. Sometimes, talking things out can help you gain a new perspective or simply feel heard and understood.
Of course, we completely understand that sometimes you might just want to relax and unwind in peace. If you prefer a quiet appointment with minimal or no talking, that's perfectly okay. Just let us know your preference when you book, or feel free to mention it at the beginning of your appointment. We're here to create a comfortable and relaxing experience for you, exactly how you like it.
How often should you book a manicure or pedicure?
As a general rule, we recommend getting a manicure every 3-4 weeks and a pedicure every 6 weeks, depending on how fast your nails grow and how long you want your polish to last. Of course, your activity level and the type of polish you choose can also affect how often you might need a touch-up. We can chat about what works best for you.
Beyond beautiful nails
Regular manicures and pedicures are more than just beauty treats – they're investments in your overall wellbeing. From stronger nails to smoother skin, improved circulation, stress reduction, and a confidence boost, the benefits are plentiful.
Do contact us if you would like to chat about booking a regular manicure or pedicure.
Spring Clean Your Routine for Glowing Skin
Winter's harsh winds and dry air can leave it feeling dry, flaky, and dehydrated. But with spring having just arrived, it's the perfect time to give your skin some love and say hello to a radiant, healthy complexion.
I've witnessed firsthand the impact seasonal changes have on the skin. Winter's harsh winds and dry air can leave it feeling dry, flaky, and dehydrated. But with spring having just arrived, it's the perfect time to give your skin some love and say hello to a radiant, healthy complexion.
In this blog, I’ll delve into the importance of spring cleaning your skincare routine, discuss how to combat winter dryness and explore tips to achieve that radiant complexion as the weather warms up.
The Importance of Seasonal Skincare Adjustments
Just like you wouldn't wear the same winter coat in the summer, your skincare routine needs adjustments too! Winter weather depletes your skin's natural moisture barrier and often demands richer moisturisers and heavier products to combat dryness. However, spring brings warmer temperatures and often increased humidity. Sticking to your winter routine can lead to clogged pores, breakouts, and an overall greasy feeling. Even if you’re not prone to congested skin - switching up your moisturiser as the weather becomes warmer will benefit your skin. Incorporating some seasonal tweaks, you can ensure your skin stays healthy, balanced, and glowing throughout spring and all the way into summer!
A Little Spring Cleaning For Your Skincare Routine
The spring clean is all about evaluating your current skincare products and making some adjustments to address your skin's changing needs.
Cleansing
Opt for a gentle, hydrating cleanser that removes impurities without stripping away natural oils. I speak to many clients who use rich cream cleansers all winter. But when spring arrives, they say that their skin feels congested. So switching to a lighter cleanser - like the Balancing Cleanser by Eve Taylor can make such a difference. This of course depends on your skin needs. If you want to use a cleanser with anti-ageing ingredients then our Age Resist Dynamic Resurfacing Cleanser is a highly active cleanser to thoroughly clean and resurface ageing skin. It’s got a lactic acid complex that exfoliates and renews the skin surface defending against the visible signs of ageing and leaving the skin fresh, soft and luminous.
Exfoliation
Regular exfoliation is crucial for removing dead skin cells and revealing a brighter, smoother complexion. It also helps your serum and moisturiser to absorb more efficiently. However, be gentle! Over-exfoliation can strip your skin's natural oils and irritate it. You should aim for 1-2 exfoliation sessions per week, depending on your skin type. You could use a physical exfoliant, like a sugar scrub, or an exfoliant containing AHAs (alpha-hydroxy acids) or BHAs (beta-hydroxy acid). The Resurfacing Cream Exfoliant is a creamy textured, non-abrasive exfoliant with 6% AHAs to gently refine skin texture without friction or scrubbing leaving the skin ultra smooth, hydrated and radiant. There is also the Micro-Fine Daily Exfoliant which you can use every day as part of your skincare routine, it’s suitable for even the most sensitive of skin types. It’s a fine textured powder based exfoliant with fruit enzymes to digest and dissolve surface skin cells. Botanical extracts soothe and brighten while leaving the skin texture feeling soft and smooth.
Serums
I can highly recommend the Age Resist Hydrating Serum with hyaluronic complex. It’s a national top seller of the Eve Taylor range. It rapidly absorbs into the skin to plump and hydrate. The appearance of fine lines and wrinkles are softened as the skin is re-hydrated and skin texture is left soft and silky with no tacky after feel. A serum is a key step in your routine. It provides your skin with a concentrated amount of ingredients and the molecules are able to penetrate into the skin which results in deeper hydration for your skin. Results are seen and felt more quickly than using a moisturiser alone.
If you prefer oil-based serums then I can’t recommend enough Eve Taylor’s blend of potent natural essential oils in the Aromatic Serum range. These are renowned encouraging oxygenation and improved elasticity. The Aromatic facial blends were the very first products Eve Taylor created, sat at her kitchen table, when she started her entrepreneurial journey in 1963.
Moisturisation
While I recommend switching to a lighter moisturising formula compared to your winter go-to, hydration remains crucial for healthy skin. Look for oil-free moisturisers formulated with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, known for their ability to attract and retain moisture without leaving a greasy residue. Explore different moisturisers in the Eve Taylor range to find the perfect match for your skin type. Don’t forget, you can always ask one of us for advice or ask to try some free samples.
My top skincare tips
SPF
Look for moisturisers with built-in SPF protection. Or apply an SPF moisturiser on top of your daily moisturiser. The C+ Bright SPF30 is a multi-purpose moisturiser which nourishes all skin types and conditions, brightens and illuminates uneven skin tone, and defends against damaging UV light. It’s easily absorbed and has a lightweight formulation. Luminosity gives a healthy glow to the skin, making this perfect for ‘no make-up’ days. It also creates an excellent base for make-up. With increased sun exposure during spring, it’s important to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Even on cloudy days, the sun can damage your skin. SPF also protects your skin from environmental pollutants which are unavoidable.
Targeted Treatments
If you have specific concerns like dark circles or uneven skin tone, consider incorporating targeted treatments like eye creams or brightening serums.
Professional Facial
A professional facial treatment can deeply cleanse your skin, remove impurities, and provide a customised boost of hydration or rejuvenation. Our Eve Taylor facials have been designed to tackle and treat most skin concerns, from anti-ageing to blemishes.
The Ultra Bright Facial illuminates dull, lacklustre, pigmented skin. It smoothes and softens your skin, while illuminating moisturiser protects and re-energises your skin leaving it flawlessly radiant, bright, and glowing.
Or if you’re a little short on time but still want to see results, then our Eve Taylor Target+ facials are fantastic. These mini treatments are results-focused and use key formulations in the Eve Taylor range and the Eve Taylor ultrasonic micro-therapy device for increased effects and results. At this time of year, our Target+ Quench or Target+ Decongest would be perfect.
Target+ Quench pushes hydrators deeper into the skin for maximum moisture levels. The Target+ Decongest clears oiliness with purifying botanicals for a fresh-faced complexion.
Make your skin glow
By embracing a spring-cleaning approach to your skincare routine, you can shed the dullness of winter and welcome the warmer months with a radiant, healthy complexion.
If you have specific skincare concerns or would like any advice, please get in touch.
