Beauty trends for 2022

Want to know what the top beauty trends of 2022 will be? Take a look our blog to find out what make-up, nail, and brow trends we're getting excited about.

Manicured nails with beautiful design

We work in a fascinating, fast-paced, and constantly evolving industry. Learning new treatment techniques, creating new looks, and bringing the latest trends into the salon is immensely exciting and rewarding. With that in mind, we thought we’d peek into the future and take a look at some of the things that could be big in 2022.

And we’re starting with a big one…

1. Ethical products

Isn’t it about time that beauty brands stopped testing their cosmetic products on animals? Should beauty brands do more to recycle? In 2022, the answer should be yes.

This year, we hope to see an even greater range of vegan and cruelty-free products on the market and for brands to commit to being more sustainable, lower their CO2 emissions, and increase recycling.

These are issues that we feel very strongly about in the salon. We have replaced cotton buds with sustainable bamboo alternatives, we are passionate about recycling, and we only use products from brands that never test on animals!

2. Less is more

Next, a make-up trend that could have health benefits for your skin.

You’ve heard of the phrase less is more; well, one of the top trends in make-up will feature ‘barely-there’ complexion products. There are lots of make-up tutorials on YouTube that teach people how to create minimal, natural-looking make-up, using just a couple of products - letting natural beauty shine through.

The great thing about this trend is that it challenges what our society has come to know as ‘normal’ - the idea that we only ‘look good’ if we wear make-up. However, not wearing make-up has plenty of health benefits, most notably, allowing skin to breathe and not allowing it to be clogged up by products.

3. Nature-inspired nails

Now, it wouldn’t be a trends post without nails! Nail art is an exciting and creative treatment that we love to provide for you. Over the last few years, we’ve seen the emergence of intricate nail designs, and this isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

In 2022, natural-inspired nail designs will be the in-thing. Beautiful landscapes, crystal geodes, sandy deserts, and sparkling constellations are some of the designs that could be popular.

4. Brows that wow

Brows are a beauty trademark. From a simple wax and tint to microblading, we love brow treatments here at Butterfly You. We’ve read that higher arches and thinner brows could be on-trend in 2022, which raised a few, well, eyebrows in the salon. But we think the most popular trend will be brow lamination. Brow lamination is almost like a perm for your eyebrows, and it is a process that opens the bond of the hair and repositions it into an upward, more lifted shape.

Those are our four trend predictions for now. We’re sure we'll have many more trends appearing as we carry on throughout the year.

Which of four things do you think will be the most popular in 2022? Do you have any other predictions?

Get in the zone, relax, unwind, and feel revitalised during National Complementary Therapy Week.

This March we’ll be championing complementary therapy week to give you an insight into the power of natural healing.

Complementary Therapy Week runs from Monday 23rd until Sunday 29th March and is all about trying to find those natural remedies to help with your ailments, mental health, and overall well being.

To celebrate and help you feel the power of holistic therapy we’ll be offering 15% off all our holistic treatments.

If you’re suffering from a painful back, sciatica, you constantly catch a dreaded cold, you’re feeling tense, anxious, stressed or you’re fed up with feeling tired and have no energy, then book yourself in for one of our incredible massages.

You’ll be able to enjoy one of our traditional Swedish massages, an Indian Head Massage, or relax with some Reflexology, and whatsmore, you can add aromatherapy oils for free.

Swedish Massage is one of our most popular massage treatments. Said to have been created by Swede, Per Henrik Ling in the 1830s, this massage technique focuses on improving circulation and flexibility by decreasing muscle toxins, while easing tension. It is great if you have aches and pains, you’re recovering from muscular injuries, you want to reduce stress and anxiety, or want to boost your immune system.

Indian Head Massages are deeply relaxing and have been around for thousands of years. They originated in India and are an alternative medicine called Ayurveda, translated as the science of life. Focusing on acupressure points in the head, neck and shoulders they help to improve physical well being by balancing energy levels within the three higher chakras. Not only do they relieve headaches and tension, but they can help to boost your memory, soothe sinuses, refresh tired eyes and improve sleep.

Reflexology is another ancient treatment and is thought to have originated in China in 2300BC. It is rooted in the Chinese belief of Qi (chee) and focuses on a person’s vital energy. The treatment involves applying different amounts of pressure to the feet, hands, and ears in order to keep Qi flowing through the body. Reflexology is said to have many healing qualities including relieving aches and pains, improving digestion, correcting hormonal imbalances, and even boosting fertility.

There are also a number of other natural fixes you can make to help your overall well being. It is thought that adopting a vegetarian diet, cutting out alcohol and reducing your sugar intake can help the digestive system. Exposure to natural elements such as sunshine, fresh air, and heat or cold can help the circulatory system. Taking time to relax by practising meditation and yoga can greatly improve the central nervous system.

Fancy trying some Yoga? I can’t recommend Sally Bilsby of Fluid Yoga East Sussex enough. I highly rate her expertise in yoga. She has helped me with my overall wellbeing. Her knowledge in how each yoga pose benefits your mind and body is second to none. She is an incredible Yoga teacher and runs classes in Bexhill & Sidley throughout the week. Are you getting enough self care?

I hope you're enjoying 2020 so far! Is this the year that you'll be spending more time putting yourself first?

I hope you're enjoying 2020 so far!

Is this the year that you'll be spending more time putting yourself first? I hope it is. I've had a wake-up call in the last month or so. I wasn't absorbing the true meaning of 'self-care'. I wasn't taking the time to truly reflect on what my mind and body needed...

The craziness of life just takes over and before you know it, three months have passed when it only feels like three weeks. You can never take time back, but I've realised that you CAN take time out to care for yourself. I've learnt that it is so important to do something that makes you feel rejuvenated and helps you to live in the moment. Let your mind, body and soul feel energised and rebalanced. Holistically, you deserve that.

If any of this rings true with you, then why not read on to find out what special offers we have running in February, so you can put yourself first. Me and my team of caring and experienced therapists are here to treat your needs.

Plastic straws and cotton buds set to be banned!

From April 2020, there will be a more conscious effort to reduce the damage of single-use plastics on the environment.

Recycling, the environment, and animal welfare are three things that are not only really important to me as a person, but also as a business owner.

Where ever we can, we try to use products that are never tested on animals and we always ensure that we recycle in the salon.

So, a few weeks ago when I read that plastic straws, stirrers and cotton buds will soon be banned in the UK, I was delighted and it prompted me to start my blog!

From April 2020, there will be a more conscious effort to reduce the damage of single-use plastics on the environment.

There has been overwhelming public support for the move which will see shops and supermarkets unable to sell the plastic items, while places such as bars, restaurants and spas cannot display plastic straws or hand them out.

Plastic-stemmed cotton buds are in the top 10 most common marine litter items that get washed up on the world’s beaches, and many use plastic-based adhesives to secure the cotton tips.

It is about time that something is done to help protect our environment and precious marine life.

Do you think this is a good move? What more do you think can be done to reduce single-use plastic?
